Mi Centro and Tacoma Art Museum (TAM), with support from Tacoma Creates, we are excited to present the “El Noroeste” art exhibit highlighting local Chicano/Latine art from across Washington State at TAM. The exhibition will be on view from Saturday, September 23, until October 1, 2023. The opening reception with the special guest speaker Richard “Cheech” Marin will be on Saturday, September 23, from 2-5 pm, at TAM Event Space— Free admission to the opening reception and the exhibition.

Cheech is recognized today as a preeminent Chicano art advocate. In the mid-1980s, he began developing what is now arguably the finest private collection of Chicano art. Much of it formed the core of his inaugural exhibition Chicano Visions: American Painters on the Verge, which broke attendance records during its groundbreaking 15-city tour during 2001-2007 to major art museums across the United States.
